If your looking to learn to code your own IOS App then it’s a fair assumption that you love apps on your iPad or iPhone maybe. So surely there are apps out there to help you learn the Swift programming language that is what is used to build & program each and every app you use on your device.
1. Swift Playgrounds
Swift playgrounds is my number one application for learning swift language. This is especially a great app if you are just starting out as it keeps learning to code, fun, simple & most importantly it re-iterates through everything giving you a great understanding as well as helping you to remember the important things. This app is free on the app store for iPad & Mac & seamlessly syncs between the two devices no matter where you have to leave your progress you can come back to it at any time.
2. Udemy
Udemy is my number two spot. Yes technically it is not an in app coder specifically but when it comes to learning to code, apart from Swift Playgrounds, they don’t exist for this language. If you are learning other more simple languages such as HTML, CSS, Python etc. then there are apps out there such as Mimo. But for swift language you are going to need to take a course.

Udemy generally have really good courses to learn at your own pace for a extremely fair price. I believe they are also now doing subscription based models as well for access to multiple courses if you don’t want to just by the one. I know I personally have learned so much from this company over the years. I started my game development here, art, drawing & animation. Currently I am taking an aerospace engineering course (always been an interest of mine) as well as the complete IOS app development course. The app is free on iPad, iPhone (mac users can just go to the udemy website here) but the courses price vary usually starting from around £12.
3. Coursera
Coursera is another course taking website/app like Udemy. However the courses are generally more of a higher level with some even offering online degrees. This is definitely the place if you are seriously looking to up your career opportunities with a better qualification behind you. I have personally taken a computational thinking course with Coursera & found it a very easy to navigate website/app & I like how you have assignments & in some cases can even interact with fellow students. Courses even has courses by Google & some of the biggest universities around the world. This does hover come at a cost. Whilst the app itself is free & it is free to sign up on their website here. The courses are actually a subscription based model with a 7 day free trial available. £28 a month is the price, which isn’t bad at all for online degrees if you can afford it but when the courses are this big, they generally take at least 6 months to complete so be aware of how much you would need to pay in. You can get the app for free on the app store for iPhone, iPad (mac users the website is here)
4. Edx
Edx is possibly the most well known course taking website/app in tech. This is home to the famous (& free) Harvard University CS50 course among many others from universities across the globe. Edx offers many courses entirely for free, including a free certificate. However there is an option to pay for a certified certificate whilst also donating to the service. Some courses require a payment usually start from £120 mark and upwards. It all depends on what you are looking for. I have started the Harvard CS50, Robotics & AI, Game Development & Maths from Stanford courses personally and find the courses are great & exactly what you get if you were on campus. You can get the app for free on iPhone & iPad (mac users here is the website)
5. Apple Developer
Apple as usual have many ways in which they help & encourage IOS developers. Apple developer is packed with the latest news from the tech world as well as their discover section. A blog filled with posts, tips, tricks etc. You have videos on events & coding as well as the latest news/updates about the app store & what we as developers need to know & be on top of. This app has lots of educational tips, stories, news and more & definitely worth a look. The app is free on the app stores for all apple products.

Do you have a favourite app that I missed? Let me know in the comments. These are just some of the many apps that can help us learn & grow as IOS developers. Thanks for reading.
